I’m thrilled to have you join us. I created this community because I understand the challenges of teaching English in places like Cd. Juárez, Mexico, and many other parts of Latin America. English teachers in these areas need support, guidance, and access to resources, and a safe community that understands their needs and those of their learners.
I was an English teacher in these circumstances myself, guiding hundreds of adult learners to achieve their language goals for over 10 years. To achieve this, I immersed myself in applied linguistics and second language acquisition theory, using my classroom experience to understand and apply this knowledge. This led me to share my insights with other teachers.
After earning a master’s in the U.S. and a doctorate in the U.K., I spent 12 years working with language teachers as an associate professor. My role was to transform complex linguistic theory into practical teaching methods, resulting in more proficient learners with strong communicative skills. I also designed an English learning program at the University of Juárez, helping thousands of students reach their language goals.
With 20 years of experience, I want to empower English language teachers because I believe in the power of education and community. Teachers need support and access to research-based resources tailored to their needs. I know this information is often reserved for a few, unavailable to many, and not always designed by those who have been in similar situations.
Thank you for being part of this community. Together, we can create a supportive and enriching environment for all language teachers.
Looking forward to empowering each other!
Best,
Dr. Deida Perea Irigoyen | Founder, Empowered Language Teachers Community
